Just wondering if the Adults lie about the same stuff as our kids. For instance I lie about sleep. I tell my husband I am running errands or tell my boss I have a doctors appointment when I am really passed out in my car or taking a nap. I’ve lied about sleep since I was an adolescent because one of the most hurtful things my family would call me was “lazy” because I am constantly fatigued and sleepy during the day. In college I skipped class to sleep and as an adult I isolate from family and social outings so I can sleep. But anyway….there it is. What do you other Adult ADDer’s lie about.

Hi, i am new to the forum, just wanted some advice, i have a 9 yr old son with ADHD, everytime we go to see my grandmother, she always is over harsh with ,my son, we can’t get through to her that what he has is an illness, we are at the point of my son refusing to go see her, which is fine by me, i can’t blame him, on the other hand, cos of this i have not seen my grandmother much at all recently, anyone else had this????
Also, my son’s father and i are not together and he refuses to admit that there is anything wrong with his son, so i am wondering about access, he even left our son on his own at our home, we were out and he dropped him off 1’2 hour before he was supposed to, i don’t know what to do?

13 yr old with ADHD and we had a check up today with the behaviorist. We have increased the VyVanse to 70mg and because there is an issue with how slow the med takes affect in the morning so she has suggested that he drink something with high caffeine. Has anyone else tried this? What have you seen positive or negative? The other issue we have is that he has been having episodes of passing out or getting light headed. He has had a EKG and Echo and his heart is good. There is an issue with his blood pressure being low and so we have increased his salt intake (we don’t salt our food) and he has to drink gatorade.

What do you think about medicating with non medicinal ways?

Not sure what to think…...opinions please

I’ll try for the readers digest version. Patience please….

Newly blended family. We have myself and hubby (I am diagnosed adhd, he is not but has all classic symptoms), and our 4 children (2 are his - one diagnosed with adhd and the other is not, but like her father has all the classic symptoms), the other two are mine and both - like myself have been diagnosed with adhd. My two are medicated and is working very well. I was medicated for two years and chose to go off them as they weren’t helping as much as they were in the beginning. Only his daughter lives with us (she is 14) and is for the most part a really good kid. His son decided to stay with thier mom. My youngest lives with us (he is 9) and can be a real handful most days (even before the “blend” took place), but he is also very sensitive and has a really big heart. My oldest who is 14 decided not stay with his dad but is with us EOW and when ever he wants in between.

So, there’s a bit of history. My issue is….my 9 yr old is a really fussy eater. He tires of the same foods quickly (as do I). He’s leery of different textures and tastes. If he doesn’t like the feel of it on his tongue or the taste of it, he will not eat. I’ve seen him miss a lot of meals because he won’t eat. My hubby is of the belief that if he refuses to eat (no matter the reason), it’s his loss. Hubby doesn’t care if my son passes out from hunger. His outlook is “if he’s hungry enough, he’ll eat what’s put in front of him”. That is how hubby was raised (and he raises his kids the same way). Me on the other hand, I was raised quite differently. I was a picky eater as well and my parents would jump through hoops to find soemthing I would actually eat. NOW, I will say, I’m not that lienient with my son. He has to atleast try a few bites if it’s a new food before deciding if he likes it or not. I was of the belief that if he won’t eat, he can do without. However lately I’m starting to feel guilty about not making him something else. Reason being is becasue I have noticed that like me, my son gets really shakey if he doesn’t eat. I know what that feels like and it’s sucks! My hubby feels that if I let him have something else in place of what has been put in front of him (I have to clarify that this is not nightly), I’m letting my son call the shots. I don’t agree. He’s not asking for something else, he’s just refusing to eat. Any suggestion on how to handle this????

How do i manage a business where there seems to be 20% or higher employees with ADHD and/ or other LD.

I run a 40 yr old family business with 50 employees outside the United States. My 20 year old son in college recently go diagnosed with ADD and is working through that with vyvanse, coaching etc. (the trials of that process are a whole other story). Where we live the society is not very aware or accepting of LD’s. The thing is that since learning more about them i pretty sure that at least 20 percent of our employees have some type of LD. (working to get a professional to assess) but i am thinking that we may have inadvertently created and LD friendly environment and her is why. My son always reminded us in some undefined way of one grandfather who died before he was born (he started the business i now run) and of his dad and other grandfather in personality. The thing is that i amfinding now that the traits that are similar are those that resulted in the adhd diagnosis. I am learning now that ADHD and other LD have also been diagnosed in both sides of the family.

Heres where i need help. At work i value the people i suspect that have LD as they are genuine, great with customer care and add sparks of life to the place. None have ever been tested, and have i think, grown up in supportive environments where they have developed some compensatory behavioral habits. I recently took over management from another family member who developed the simple systems in place but she spent all the time at work, checked constantly and keeping things together. The thing is that i am getting a bit overwhelmed, i need to adjust the work enviornment where i can keep the people i have but i need a life! Have to keep track of all the details, check and recheck stuff etc., calling in often etc. Am an experienced manager and like working on organizational systems but unsure of how to proceed as i am realizing that some of my valued staff cannot “grow” into the managerial/supervisory positions i have been unsuccessfully working with them at. (paperwork, supervising others etc.)

I think we would be an intersting case study for an expert in this field. FYI, i suspect a range including ADHD, dycalculia, dyslexia and asperger. And i have watched this and read up on it for almost a year before writing this.

Would appreciate any feedback.

ADHD, Anxiety, and Looking for Love.

I am a 38 year old student who has been diagnosed with ADHD last year. When I was diagnosed, I figured that is the reason why I was never married and never had any close friends.

Well, now I am in a group situation in my program where my Anxiety part of the ADHD is rearing it’s ugly head. First off, I would like to do things before the deadline, the group that I am in are those that like to do it the last minute. Yet, I was in my Psycho stage when I decided to do something and tell the group later. That was an email that now is a solved issue. But now one group member is saying that using FB isn’t a good idea because I repeat myself. I don’t think that I ever did repeat myself in this instance.

But all of this reminds me of my past relationships. I know that in one of them, I ended up almost being a stalker.

Oh, I am taking Prozac, and I don’t know if it is being effective. And I am seeing a Councellor about this tomorrow. I also should say that this is also a family trait. My mother has heart problems because of her anxiety.

I hate not being able to communicate and I would love to get married and have kids. But because of the combination of ADHD and Anxiety, it’s not going to happen. I am also concerned because I am going to graduate soon and I need to network to find a job. Can anybody please help me with this issue?
