Gifted ADHD Children

16 year old highly gifted falling apart in school
Keywords:

I just read yor reply to the parent of a young gifted kid with sensory issues and thought you might have some advise for me. I have a 16 year old highly gifted boy who has currently completely fallen apart in school. He was only recently diagnosed with ADHD as he was in a private school through 8th grade where he had a lot of room to “do his own thing”. He bombed out of public high school by getting in trouble continuously although with my constant pressure managed to keep his grades up, but his study skills are pretty bad. He took college classes last spring (sophmore year) and he was a totally different kid… focused and motivated and got all A’s. Now back in a new alterenative high school where it is pretty chaotic with very little academic expectations and he is being wildly distracted and disruptive seeming to have no concern for how his behavior affects anyone else. He is getting very defensive and just expects to get in trouble. He fights hard against authority which gives him little emotional energy to figure out what he wants for himself and seems little motivated to make any plans. He is working from home only now because of his very poor behavior there. Any ideas of a great school or environment for him? He is a gifted (and motivated) musician.
