Just Diagnosed With ADHD (Children)

9 year old Daughter recently diagnosed with ADHD

Hello everyone,

In November of 2013, my 9 year old daughter was diagnosed with ADHD by a Child Psychologist. After speaking with her Pediatrician, he started her on 40 mg of Methylphenidate in the morning and 10 mg in the afternoon. We also adjusted her diet and limited watching television, and make sure she is getting plenty of rest at night.

To make a long story short, after seeing no change in her attention span, impulsive behavior, and excessive talking, we are now up to 60 mg in the morning. After at least two weeks of this, her teachers are still complaining that there has been no change (neither are we seeing any changes at home).

Our insurance plan may be soon changing to a high deductible plan so I’m afraid to switch her to another medication, as her current meds would be over $300 per month under the new insurance policy. Does anyone know of a more affordable medication option or has had success with a more natural approach to ADHD symptoms?
