ADD and Relationship Speed

I have dated a total of two people in my life time (at least for long enough that it could be considered dating). I am a notoriously slow dater. Hand holding is about as far as I will go on the physical intimacy scale, add a little cuddling if I feel really comfortable with that person. However I find that for a long, long, LONG while I am more concerned with €¦ emotional intimacy? The getting to know each other stage of my relationships seems to last a long long time. Admittedly I am only 24 and my experience is anything but vast.

Is this hesitance towards physical intimacy something that other young adults with ADD have? Or is it just my own personality?

Hey I’ve never really had an boy friend and I do date but bad at it! Don’t even get me started on kissing and cuddling! I have an hard time letting people in into my personal space and emotional & physical intimacy seems very scary to me! Ive gotten better with person space, when it comes to my family members. My niece just comes over and hugs me and I think she’s been a good help with space.Your not alone and I’m 28!

Hi Kaitoukid!

Dating can be so awkward! A college student with ADHD wrote a personal essay on dating that you might find interesting: http://www.additudemag.com/adhd/article/1487.html.

ADDitude’s ADHD & the City blogger has written a lot about dating as well: http://www.additudemag.com/adhdblogs/1/index.html.

I say stay within your comfort zone and give it time and things will happen naturally. grin
