Parents of ADHD Teens and Young Adults

A very informative video by Dr. Russell Barkley, PhD

I recently watched a video under the ‘video’ tab by Dr. Russell Barkley,PhD.  He discusses ideas for parents of children with ADHD.  I wish I had watched this many years ago!

The first part of the video is what I would call scientific information(how the brain works) and the last part of the video talks about tips you can put to use to make things easier. One thing among many things Dr. Russell Barkley talks about is changing the environment for your children to make it easier for them and us parents instead of having the hassles and frustrations of ‘making’ kids fit into an environment that doesn’t work for them.  This video address some of the questions I’ve seen posted here.  (another thing addressed is that children with ADHD usually have another diagnosis)  The video is 3 hours long-I have accessed the video from my cell phone and then listen to the video on my car speakers.

Happy viewing!

Thank you!  My 11 year old daughter is currently hospitalized and viewing this will help me to continue advocating for proper treatment and diagnosis.  Have a beautiful and blessed day!

You can search this guy on YouTube…  He is dispassionate and informed.  In my view, one of the shinning stars in ADHD research and treatment.

He sugar coats nothing.  You know where you stand.  If you buy into the the ‘Think Outside of the Box’, ‘Ferrari Brain’ and ‘Wow, Hyperfocus!’ club, you will be in for a rude awakening.

This guy states, unequivocally, that this is a disorder, a malfunction, a malady.  After 53 years with this thing, I agree.  Let’s face it.  In order to conquer an enemy, you first have to recognize it as such.  Calling this thing some kind of ‘alternate OK’ falls right into the hands of those who claim ADHD does not exist.  It does exist and calling it anything less than a nightmare is an insult to the millions who deal with it every day.

Yeah… I watch Barkley.  And I keep an eye out for anything new he presents - whether in writing or video.
