Anxiety and ADHD
Anxiety, Stress, High BP
Hi everybody- We have a 15yr old ADHD/ODD daughter who has been extremely difficult and the anxiety/stress I have been experiencing with her over the last several years just keeps getting worse. I recently was placed on BP medication for dangerously high pressure and this is a first for me. Then the shortage of stimulant medication has made things worse for me (I’m also ADHD)...I’m much more calm on my medication but haven’t been able to get my prescription filled for 4 months. I feel like I’m going to snap w/ anxiety. We see a therapist but I don’t feel like it’s helping alot right now. I feel as though I am a basket case anymore and everyone just tells me to take time to ‘get out and relax’. As if that is the magic answer. Anyone else experiencing anxiety like mine?

ALL THE TIME!
First off, if the therapist is not helping, stop going (you are just wasting precious time) Also check with your regular dr and tell her you haven’t been able to fill your meds. Are you on B/P meds? You have to make sure you take that as directed. Some ADD meds can make your heart race, so be careful and tell your dr everything you are taking. Ask if they can rec a psychiatrist and if you should see one. Is your daughter seeing anyone? Support groups are great if you can find one closeby. This website is awesome with tons of info and support. You are not alone~we all have something in common. ADD/ADHD, aniexty, depression and even BiPolar can mock each other’s disorder. So talk to your dr. Write down questions to ask. It is hard to remember and focus on several things with these disorder. Keep a journal so you can vent. Help your daughter to do the same. I hope this helps.
Get your daughter involved in activities, and get me time. I am a mother of a 19-year-old, and I can tell you things get better but it takes a long time. Use any opportunity you can to get you and your daughter involved in meditation and lots of outdoor activities.
I am on meds for anxiety, depression, and ADD, but what really helps me get the best of my meds and appreciate the best of my son is doing meditation and prayer and staying involved with my son.
absolutely…the anxiety is terrible the older I get it seems. Im 35 now and I have never had anxiety like this. Its part of this disorder and your not alone out there. I have ativan to take for anxiety and it helps me get through some rough times.
SO great to read these posts and know I am not losing it…Just recently diagnosed adhd and in my forties…my anxiety is NUTS and I have never been like this and the depression issue is growing. I am also Diabetic and the two issues ( adhd/Diabetes) trigger each other like crazy
yes! what helps me is me time and keeping my Daughter Busy! Also Praying helps me so much and going to a Christian Church. You dont have to go to church (the Building) it self to get the same affects. Just Pray read a book that will help,it has also helped me. I found that tough love has helped for me on my two Adult Sons!
You may want to consider seeing a cognitive behavioral therapist. They teach you techniques to control the anxiety and depression as well. Talk therapy (which I assume you’re in- you can verify by checking if the person you’re seeing is a psychotherapist) might not be what you need right now.
I am so glad to hear from others the same things I am going through. My son has ADD and I believe I passes it on him. I am not diagnosed, but I knew. My stress/anxiety issues could be part of the ADD symptom. I am taking meds for anxiety. I got ADD symptom checklist and it helped realized that I need to see my Dr again for proper meds and management. Thanks to all your posting.
