Bible study idea...PLEASE READ!!!

Hey guys,
I have recently come across a wonderful way to study the Bible that is ADD/ADHD friendly and has been very helpful for me.
I go to biblegateway.com, go to the book I am studying through (1 John right now), copy about 4-5 verses, and paste them into a word document.
Instead of trying to explain it, I will just show you an example: (1 John 1:5)

1. This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you

This is important it is a message from Jesus himself. He told us, and we want to share it with you!

2. that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all

Not God has light shining on him but God IS the light. Jesus is the light, too. God has no darkness in him. God loves the light, and does not want us to have any darkness in us either.

So basically, you break the verses up into little chunks and then think about each chunk. Since you are constantly copying and pasting and moving from section to section, it does not give you as much opportunity to get distracted. I do it on the computer instead of hand writing it because typing is so much faster. Anyways, it really helps you to think through the passage, and I have noticed bits and pieces of the verses coming to me throughout the day since I have started this. I pray that this can bless someone else, too!

(This is a variation of the method presented in “Becoming more than a good Bible study girl”)

I like that idea.  I heard the tail end of a conversation on Moody yesterday on “This is the Day” that they talked about how to journal your prayer list, and every day have a new “topic” like family one day, leaders another day.  As I listened I thought there would be enough consistancy with the topic but enough variety with who to pray for that we wouldn’t be as apt to get derailed.  Personally I have to hand write, on the computer I find too many other topics I start looking into.

I have trouble with consistently meditating on scripture, this looks interesting. I think I will give it a try. Thanks.

I showed my wife your posting and she also liked the idea. So we decided to order “Becoming more than a good Bible study girl. Thanks again. To God Be The Glory.

Hi Annamarie,

That sounds like really great idea. I think I’ll try it too!  I have a question.  Where do you do the notes? is it in the program or on the website?  Or do you use Word ?

Thanks so much!

God Bless!

I am so glad this idea has been helpful.
inahurry, I use Word.
shortpants, I understand…a journal is a lot less distracting. I just get super distracting because writing is SO much slower than typing…but whatever works for you!
Rancher John, I hope you and your wife enjoy the book. If you two read a lot, I would HIGHLY recommend The ADHD Effect on Marriage. It is a book for couples who are trying to figure out how to deal with the damage ADD/ADHD has wreaked on their relationship. Y’all may be in a good place, but I am not even married and I really enjoyed it. smile
