ADHD at School

I have a problem regarding my performance during exams and tests. During the classes, it’s always easy to me to understand the topic, i write all the words said by my lecture, i even teach my friends (yes, i teach them)

When it comes to the exam, i study hard and again teach my friends but the problems come when it comes to the exam itself.

I ALWAYS FAIL TO UNDERSTAND EACH PROBLEMS DURING THE EXAM and end up having the lowest score among my group study. I have no idea why..i study hard and understand the subject well, have exercise with problems related to the subject but why i end up failing? This ALWAYS happens and it’s infuriating.

I have ADD inattentive and haven’t got any treatment yet. Have you ever got the same experience?

Please share your experience or thoughts and it’d be even better if you could give some solutions.

Thank you

Kudos to you for your study habits.  My son who has ADD and is in high school often has the same problem with exams.  Have you discussed your concerns with your teacher?  S/he can work with you to identify the main points of a question. It is good that you understand the material and test your friends but have them test you as well. Are there distractions in the classroom? Do you have test anxiety? ADDers are challenged with reading comprehension and while I’m not sure this is your issue you may want to research it.  Good luck!

My son has same for of ADD. He gets more time on tests and it helps him so because it takes the pressure off so he can think. He gets time and a half on tests and quizzes. Maybe with that extra time you will have more time to read the questions again and again if needed so you can understand the questions and answer them like you know how.

I can relate 100%. I’ve always had this problem when I was a child and don’t have ADHD.  I found this website and maybe it can help you. To this day, I stink at doing forms.  I hate doing them.

Since you clearly understand the material but are unable to demonstrate that when it comes to the written test..what about a verbal test with your teacher?
Or a different method for the teacher to measure your mastery of the material?

Just as everyone has their own way of learning…we also have different ways we best express our knowledge.
Hope this helps! =D
