Feeling like a tyrant

Ugh! I end every day feeling more and more like a tyrant! The doctor just bumped my 12 year old daughter up to 54 mg of Concerta. She was previously on 36 mg. Today, she was home with me because she had a doctors appointment. She has a graph/map/proportions project due on Wednesday and a reading project/book report due on Thursday. I have tried ALL DAY LONG to get her to focus on either of those and getting nothing accomplished. It certainly isn’t because she can’t concentrate, at this point, since she was concentrating on everything but what needs to get done. I am just out of ways to motivate her… suggestions?

My husband feels that we need to let her fail on her own since we’ve been picking up the pieces for her for years. I feel like we should be helping her out but inevitably that leads to us actually doing the projects for her. Getting her to stand on her own two feet has been really, really hard. On the plus side, we’ve managed to get her to start writing in her planner during the day so she can keep track of what’s going on. However, the down side is, she doesn’t actually follow through on what’s in the planner…

I feel this way everyday. My son is so not into doing anything he is asked to do. I have decided that he has to take accountability for his actions if he doesn’t he will never understand how important things are. This year has proved to be the hardest and as a mom you want to spring into fix it mode but eventually you cant fix everything. Good Luck
