Feeling overwhelmed

I have 4 children ranging from 16 to 9 that are diagnosed ADHD. My oldest son is really struggling in school he also suffers from Tourettes, anxiety and learning disabilities. He is 13 any suggestions on helping him.

I am often overwhelmed with just one (11 1/2—year-old boy)!  I can’t imagine how you manage with 4 kids diagnosed.

Do you have support at home (spouse, family, etc.)? Support in the community?

Is your son on medication and does he get any sort of therapy or counseling?  Support, therapies and meds are all tools you can use to help him cope with the difficulties.  Do his teachers work well with you to accommodate him and help him?  Does he have a 504 or an IEP at school?

Sorry for all the questions, but those are pieces of the puzzle that can help.  I certainly hope you have help at home, ‘cause it sounds like you have quite a load.

People on here can give you lots of good ideas, but fill us in on what you already have in place and what, in particular, you’re looking for help with.

As I tell my girls - turn that whine into a shine and NEVER underestimate your strength! You are (obviously) a STRONG mom! and you are never alone in the overwhelmed department!  Keep calm and carry on this too shall pass - get the chant going in your head now smile!
Find an easily recognizable success your son can gain some satisfaction from and build on it (anything readily available at this point and quickly!) - can you get outside for a bike ride? any physical exertion will calm and center you all - find a parent to parent mentor in your state to guide you in muddling through the school district bureaucracy to get your son some help at school As a solo parent to identical twin 7 yo ADHD/dyslexic+ girls and ADHD myself, I feel your pain and know all too well that overwhelm that will send you spinning.  I have learned that my funk is contagious to my kids so I keep my pity parties to late night which is easier said than done, and keep a smile on - JAMurphy has some great points about school, therapy and counseling - find and use as many tools you may have and invest in as many more as you can find available to you!  Sending many blessings your way - keep up the good fight - you CAN do it! .
