Focalin XR

Can anyone tell me if your child has been experiencing any side effects from focalin xr? If yes, what were they, and did they go away at all?

My son is on 40mg and is 8 yrs old. We have tried a lot of other meds and this one by far seemed to be the best by far expect now he’s experiened Tics.
My gut feeling its caused by the medicine.

My son is 9 and weighs only 54lbs (he’s small in stature naturally) and is only on 15 mgs. I agree that it’s been the best of all we’ve tried so far as well, and we’ve tried several! As for side effects, he’s actually had fewer side effects on the Focalin xr than anything else. While it’s true that 5 different people can use the same meds with 5 different experiences, I can’t help but wonder if what your son is experiencing is due to the seemingly high dosage. Is the prescribing doctor his pediatrician or a child psychiatrist? I only ask because I ended up having a similar situation with my son’s pediatrician when he was initially diagnosed….he prescribed Adderall, which caused major changes in personality and severe mood swings. When I shared my concerns his answer was to increase the dosage. At that point the psychologist that ran his social skills group recommended a child psychiatrist to manage the meds as they’re trained more extensively in this area. I know what a struggle it can be to find the right meds so I wish you luck getting it straightened out!

Thank you for your help! I just don’t know what to do at this point! I want him off this medicine that I do know! Am I bad for wanting to go back to a Med we tried a while ago to see it the tics go away? I feel stupid calling his Dr and then again I don’t. God please give me strength and guide me the best way for my son.
