ADHD in Texas

Groups in the San Antonio Area

New here and my son is newly diagnosed with ADHA less than 3 weeks ago.
My husband and I don’t know where to turn and overwhelmed by the diagnoses. We have questions and just plain tired of the yelling, temper tantrums and the difficulty with our son. Our home is in complete disharmony plus my husband blames me for our son’s ADHD and under minds my discipline towards our son.

Hi! I live in San Antonio. Sorry it took a while to respond. There is a group that meets in the Stone Oak area but I don’t think we are meeting in the summer. To be honest, no one has been responding to attend besides me and the group leader.

I will message you personally. I have a couple of resources and perhaps we can get together. I have a few years of craziness under my belt!

I am in San Antonio as well!! NE side. I am a young mother of 2 children with adhd. 9yr old son and 7yr old daughter and I feel like I am losing it. Oh let me not leave out that I was diagnosed in fourth grade and my mom didn’t believe in it :/... So now I am trying to figure out my kids medication and what works for them and trying to get myself in to see a dr and get help for myself as well!!

I’m in San Antonio as well. Wondering if anyone has any recommendations for other resources to help out with my child’s behavior. I currently take him to a psychiatrist for his prescriptions. I’ve taken him to see a play counselor but that wasn’t helpful at all. He has been on focalin XR since he was 6. Right now he takes it twice a day, somedays it seems to help others it just doesn’t do a thing. He is consistently lying to keep from getting in trouble. He steals when he wants something bad enough. He is 10 and it worries that it’s just gonna get worst as he gets older. He has been caught watching inappropriate videos and pics on the Internet. He isn’t the type that talks back or gives attitude (anymore than the next kid) so I never expect these types of behaviors from him like lying and stealing. When he does these things and we reprimand him for the things he has done he doesn’t show remorse. Almost as if he doesn’t understand that what he did was wrong not as in a “who cares” attitude. I’m starting to wonder if there may be something else going on with him that hasn’t been uncovered. My family has a history of autism… maybe I’m just reaching for something other than him being a bad kid. Any suggestions are welcome

Lying and stealing are unfortunately a product of impulsivity, which plagues those with ADHD. Here’s more on that:

I hear your concern for his nonchalant attitude too. It could be a mood disorder or even high functioning autism. While my son doesn’t have that same trait, he does have both ADHD and autism. Talk to your son’s doctor about your concerns to explore it further.

Are there any support groups meeting in San Antonio

I too am looking for a support group in SA.  I looked on CHADD but was unsuccessful in finding anything.
