Vyvanse Reviews
Has anyone had this same problem on Vyvanse?
I was diagnosed with ADHD back in October at the age of 32. I started taking Vyvanse 20mg then after two weeks increased to 30mg and have been at 40mg for the last couple months. At first the meds seemed to helping a ton! And they still do however I have more recently become very sensitive to things people say and take things personally that were not meant to be personal. I have always been a sensitive person but this is different. I feel like I am being “attacked” when someone says the littlest thing to me.
My life is like most people who have been diagnosed with ADHD at an older age…screwed up! I just finally finished my BA…only 10 years later!! I am living in my parents house because with the crappy retail job that I am not able to afford my own place. I feel like I am a failure and I will never be truly happy. I have ruined two relationships ...looking back it was because of my ADHD but wasn’t aware of it. I am resentful of my sisters because of everything that they had while they were growing up(I am 10 years older than them).
I thought that when I finally got on meds and was seeing a therapist(both things started about the same time) that things would start to turn around in my life…but no such luck. :’(
I don’t know what else to do to help myself. I just want to be happy and not so angry with the world anymore. Please can anyone help…?

Have you noticed this to be true all the time or just at certain times of the month? I was about your age when I had to start taking meds to help balance out my hormonal “issues”. I began noticing that I was much more sensitive/cranky about a week before my cycle. I did find that to be helpful.
I’ve been on vyvanse since September and haven’t noticed any sensitivity issues.
Good luck!
I guess I haven’t kept track of when it happens. That’s not a bad idea. If it is a hormonal thing what can I do to fix it?
There are certain birth control pills that are supposed to help with PMS/hormonal symptoms. If you do think it could be hormonal I would talk to your doctor.
My daughter (7 1/2) is taking Vyvanse and she seems to be more sensitive and sometimes gets violent when it is wearing off. She has had violent episodes in the past (pretty sure she also has ODD), but this is way more consistent and we did not have the issue when she was on Concerta. I would speak to your Doctor about any issues or concerns you have with your medication.
My daughter also has major mood swings a week before her cycle. They were much worse and more regular before she started taking Intuniv with the Vyvanse. It seemed to level things off for her.
I am highly educatted when it comes o ADHD. My son is 10 & takes 40 mg one time oer day & another 20 mg as needed. (More so just during basebal season- so he can focus & stay on task.)
Most doctors start with a low dose & month by month wil increase the mg’s until u find the right dose for you. Are you able to focus, be attebtion & pay attetnion? If yes it is working for you.
It sounds like you have sever depression, most peole r on some kind of medication, I personally take Ativan for on set stress. Talk to ur dr. about getting on a depression medication I use to take Prestiq- it worked for me. Hope this helps!
I took vyvanse for a month and had severe mood swings. Mainly sadness and sensitive to all things I cries all night several nights for no logical reason. I went back on adderal and so far do good.
I’m 29 and have been on vyvanse since Aug 2011. Honestly I love it. It has changed my life. I knew I had hormone issues and found that I had similar sensitivities. I would ask your doctor about additional meds for that. I have also learned that it is not uncommon for someone with ADD/ADHD to have anxiety, depression, pmdd, etc and require additional treatment. Just know you are not alone
Thank you to everyone for your help. I took your advice and went to see my Dr. After meeting with him yesterday we decided to keep my meds where they are for right now, thinking that the holiday season might have played a part in my over-sensitivity. I am hoping that is the case. I have been diagnosed with depression as well and the vyvanse has been helping with that as well.
I have also been trying to focus on the positive and making sure that I am thankful for at least one thing in my life each day¡Äno matter how small. Some days are better then others. I just keep thinking get through one day at a time and when that seems like too much it goes to one hour at a time or less if needed! LOL! Again thank you for all the advice. It is so nice to have people to talk to who understand what this is like.
Hey adewey, just wanted to put my two cents in there. Vyvanse (30mg) also made me very sensitive and I would have a meltdown every afternoon for no apparent reason. I added Strattera (40mg) and it was very helpful. The Strattera stabilized my moods and the energy of the Vyvanse and the quiet focus of the Strattera have been a great combo.
I take Vyvanse & Effexor, and I believe the Effexor helps stabalize the sensitivity. I do believe that Vyvanse causes something similar to paranoia; I work in a cubicle environment, and when I’d hear people chatting (but couldn’t hear word for word), I would FEEL like they were talking about me - knowing that I was being silly.
Vyvanse made me feel very focused but I also felt like I got more aggressive as well. I noticed that I didn’t back down in discussions where I would have without the meds. It may just be that my thoughts weren’t getting derailed and I was able to stay completely in the conversation. I do think this was the best medication that I have used and I am looking to get back on it.
