Has anyone made the switch from Tenex (Guanfacine) to Intuniv?

My son has been on Tenex for about 8 months now. He couldn’t tolerate stimulants and the tenex has helped with his impulsivity tremendously.  He takes it at 7:40 before school and at 3:15 when he comes home.  His psychiatrist thinks we should switch him to Intuniv so he’s more steady throughout the day and isn’t so emotional when he comes home.  He said it takes about 45 minutes for his second dose to kick in and he’s just a mess until about 4:00 since his morning does has completely worn off.  Has anyone made the switch?  Thr dr says it should be easy because it’s really the same medicine, but it took us a few tried to find the tenex that I’m nervous about switching.  Anyone have any experience making the switch?

As soon as my 4 year old stopped the intuniv 2mg, his impulsive behavior came back. I’m hoping this new medicine called Quillivant XR will fix his impulsive behavior as well as last the 12 hours it says. If he’s still with the impulsive behavior, then I’ll put him back on intuniv. But the intuniv seemed to stop working when I changed it from the evenings to the afternoon. He went back to hitting his preschool teachers again. So I think I’ll go back to the evenings, once I see how the Quillivant xr does.

My 9yr old is on Intuniv 4mg every night and it works great. He used to take it in the morning but it made him drowsy during school so we switched to night time and he sleeps better and isn’t groggy. We also use Concerta 18mg during the day to help control the impulsive things like singing, clicking, taping, and fidgety. His teacher noticed a difference immediately and says he is more engaged in groups now. He is doing well and still has enough meds on board to do homework in the afternoon after school. Plus with the Concerta we don’t have to give it to him on weekends or holiday breaks and it doesn’t have the side effects or seem to bother him. The only side effect I’ve seen with Intuniv is drowsiness when taken in the morning. Also, 4mg is the Max dose and it still needs assistance with impulsivity.
