ADHD in Michigan

Hello there, my name is Hayley and I have been living in Michigan (Macomb county) for almost a year now. (Grew up in Virginia, then moved to New York 6 years ago.) I have been off medications since my sophomore year of high school, as I was trying to stabilize my blood sugars (I am a type one diabetic) and since now I feel my diabetes is completely under control, I feel like it may be a good idea to possibly go back on medications or therapy, as my inattentiveness has been driving my self and my boyfriend up the wall lately.

Firstly, does anyone know if when seeing a psychiatrist or psychologist, does one need a referral before going/making the appointment? I’m having a bit of trouble making a first appointment with my PCP, and its annoying me because I’m assuming I need a referral for both those as well as an endocrinologist for my diabetes.

Secondly, anyone else in the Detroit Metro area? It would be great knowing if there’s someone in my area that I can talk to that understands what I’m going through.

I am in Macomb as well.
Needing a referral or not will depend on your health insurance. I am able to be managed through my family physician, I do medicate.
My 3yo is showing signs of ADHD, I will not medicate him though. I am researching diet and supplements.
