How to be evaluated

Hello.  I am Mom to an 8 yr old with ADHD.  After reading and reading everything I can to help my son, I suspect I also have undiagnosed ADHD.  Who would an adult see for a diagnosis?  If you are in the central NJ area, could you recommend someone?  What should I expect in terms of evaluation?  Thanks for any help or advice.

Can you get your physician to do an evaluation for you, or send you to a psych to do it, if your insurance allows that?

I was tested in my family physicians office and then he prescribed the meds right then when he saw I met criteria for Adult ADD

Any clinical psychologist should be able to test you.

Your family doctor can do a very simple evaluation to prescribe meds, BUT the issues of ADD go far deeper than than just needing to tweek the brain chemistry a bit with a pill. I would read all you can about adult ADHD, comorbities, and therapies. As I have found out, there can be many subtle emotional and behavior issues that we may not even be aware of. Some Pdocs do formal testing, and some just like to get a good background over a few sessions before really starting any therapy.
