How to prove Anxiety & Stress

People-I was hired by my employer, the United States Postal Service after the first Gulf War, when leaving the Army on a medical discharge.
After 19.5 years of positive work, put in for a promotion I realized I couldn’t work, asking for accommodation to no avail.  After failing a simple math test, I was fired.
Filed appeals, grievances and even won a Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) appeal (had to go to Washington).  This would be good news, but my employer-the USPS refused to honor the award and I’ve since had to refile what the MSPB says is a Petition for Enforcement, while the USPS simply fired me again for the same test failure.
So far, we’re surviving on retirement that’s ran out, I’ve gone back to school to increase employability, knowing I have ADHD has made such a difference.  Where before I didn’t have a plan, now I understand my strengths -weaknesses.  Anyone else with experience fighting a never ending battle?

The only personal experience I have had with fighting such a battle was with the school system to get my son with ADHD a 504 Plan for accommodations in the classroom.  Accommodations that still are not routinely administered by his teachers.  That has been a whole other battle.

I would think that with your diagnosis, you would be protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act.  Crazy that a federal institution like the USPS would not give you accommodations required by a federal law.  Check out this website about filing a complaint -http://www.ada.gov/filing_complaint.htm.

It sounds like from your post you are moving on in a positive direction.  Still, I would maybe consider consulting a lawyer too.  It seems they are clearly in violation of ADA and should not be allowed to get away with that.  Just unbelievable!  These laws were enacted for a reason and people must stand up to ensure they are enforced, otherwise they are not worth the paper they’re written on.  It’s a battle worth fighting I think.  Frustrating though to say the least!  Good luck and keep us posted.  I’d love to know the outcome.
