I need control...
I requested the old-school IR (instant release) because i can control the peak plasma levels much better. I generally take 30mg before jumping in the shower to get ready to work. By the time I watch Phineas and Ferb with my 5.5yo daughter my wife wakes up and I head out to work. I take a second dose when I go out for lunch, then if I’m working late I take another 20mg around 5pm.
The XR versions don’t give me the control I need when i need it. They were created as line-extensions (marketing tactics to keep a brand alive and fight generic erosion), starting with the first one Ritalin SR touted in 1982 as the new “once a day” brand. When Adderall’s patent was coming close to an end they too launched Adderall XR, then Ritalin went out with Ritalin LA (long acting), lol…now that Adderall XR’s patent is old and tired Shire launched a new class of drug they coined when they launched their “stimulant Pro Drug” Vyvanse (breaks down after digested so kids can’t snort it).
But I stay true to the original mixed amphetamine salts Adderall (but I request brand name not generic, which pisses off the pharmacy because they make less money off of it and have to order it…even though I get a new script every month).
I’ve tried most every other short-acting stimulant and find that Adderall fits my needs perfectly, and I can break pills and titrate up and down as needed.
Anyone else like Adderall or have a child on Adderall? I’m going on 8 years now…

I have been taking Adderall XR for the last 7 years and have to say I like it better, but for the last few months I have switch to the IR version which I had used once before and I agree it does have it’s benefits. I have tried Vyvanse and felt that it took to long to take affect and subsuquently cause me to have insomnia more often than not. My only problem with the IR version of Adderall is that some days it seems to wear off much more quickly than others. I do know some types of foods and drinks can cause this; however, other than this minor detail it does give you a bit more control.
I’ve been taking IR Adderall 30 mg for 10 years. I tried the XR years ago & did not like it for me. XR was created due to IR going off patent.
I like also to control the timing of my adderal.
Everyone is diff in their needs.
I always take brand too! Which was by shire & had AD scored on one side. Barr is now official BRAND Co., the AD has been replaced with d/p. Barr made generic throughout period shire was BRAND.
My question is…...has anyone noticed a difference or inconsistency in BRAND since change?
I have. This past month pk’d up Script & noticed the tabs were slightly thicker & much harder-I also half my adderall at times & after 10 years of taking Brand Adderall I know how it feels, how it sounds in bottle & how it breaks,etc.
Shire still makes XR. Barr is now part of Teva & two manuf.‘s are approved to produce Brand Adderall.
This is brief summary & only bringing up to see if any IR BRAND ADDERALL users have noticed a difference in their Adderall. Oh, the d/p score stands for Duramed Phar., Barr purchased Co & when Teva acquired Barr Duramed included.
Lol, I did research last wk & recalling from memory the Who’s & When’s. Just be aware our usual brand has chg’d. Google it for info.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF ANYONE TAKING BRAND IR ADDERALL HAS NOTICED ANY CHANGES IN HOW IT REACTS.

I prefer the IR Adderall but my psycharist (who is also an addictionologist) REFUSES to prescribe it to anyone because of the potential for abuse. I asked her if she would consider giving me the IR for my morning dose (I take 2 20mg XR) so it would “kick in” because that is what I have been taking since I was 18. I too like being able to break them in half and “control” them if I want/need to. I’m thinking of getting another psycharist or just going back to my regular GP. I konw that the “regulations” say that the limit is 60mg/day but I feel like I need more…anyone else feel that way or take more than the “recommended” dosage?
