I started in 18mg for a week. Felt like it kinda was working then the next week I took 25mg. Was working great but the down side is I didn’t sleep for almost a week and made me super constipated. My Doc switched me to Concerta. So far is good.
Yes, and Medicare hates the fact that I am on it! Strat is a brand name only medication and the only one that I can take to avoid medication clashes, but they hate paying for it. In fact, they only approve it one year at a time! It makes me sick!
PD54- You sound just like me. I will be 58 in August and was in the process of applying for Graduate school and have put it on hold. I have been on Strattera for about 5 yrs. At first I thought it helped but I had never had meds for ADD before. It works better than nothing but not really that great. I am thinking that I should ask for a new med. as I think I could better results with something else. I was thinking of asking for Vyvanase as I heard that it has worked really well for a lot of people.
What is your exact questions regarding Straterra?
Hey pdpurdy54!
How long have you been on Strattera? It takes a good six weeks to kick in. I had some weird side effects the first few weeks, but now it does not give me any problems (I have been on it since October). My mom (46) is also on it, and it enabled her to go off her Lexapro and has helped her stop feeling overwhelmed. I am actually on Strattera and Vyvanse together. The Vyvanse made me moody, but the combo works really well. (I am about to try to find a new stimulant because Vyvanse is not effective enough, but I love the Strattera) Ask your psych about adding Vyvanse or switching back? If it really worked then you may just want to stick with it. As far as the cost, find out if you can get a 90 day supply…it is a lot cheaper.
I tried Strattera a couple of months ago and it didn’t work for me. I am 42 and have been diagnosed last summer so it was my 1st attempt at treatment. I didn’t see a difference in my adhd but it gave me mild nausea and a sensation of having a ball in my throat that makes swallowing difficult, and also chronic cough so I stopped after only a few weeks since I have had similar problems with Lexapro (another anti-dep ttt I was taking for fibromyalgia). This type of meds take time to kick in, so I’d say if you don’t have bad side effects you should stick with it for a little while and see if it gets better?
For my part I am starting to consider Concerta.
Good luck!
My son is on Concerta and has been for about 5 years (he’s 11.5). We just figured out that it has stopped working. My straight A student when from all A’s to all F’s in 3 months. We have an appointment tomorrow to talk to his doctors and get him switched to Strattera or Vyvanase. Are there sleeping problems with these brand?
My husband takes Vyvanse, but won’t take it consistently, but it does appear to interfer with his sleeping. I haven’t noticed a moodiness issue as mentioned by AnnaMarie. The hubby and I have been in counseling for the past 2 months, but I am still not noticing ‘a lot’ of changes, but things are different and we are better able to communicate. And sometimes his focus seems to be improving - when he takes it consistently.
My doctor (in consultation) with my Cardiologist, just started me on Intuniv. I haven’t started it yet. It is supposed to have minimal cardio side-effects (I had 2 heart attacks in July).
I want something to help get my ADD under control and help me to focus and remember better.
Ritalin caused me to become too stimulated. I will let you know how it works.
Good luck to you.
