Krill Oil?

My son is currently taking fish oil - begrudgingly.  He doesn’t like the huge pills.  I keep seeing ads for Mega Red Krill Oil and am wondering if that would be a reasonable replacement - the pills are much smaller and supposedly more potent?  I’ve just ordered some Barlean’s Kids Fish Oil Swirl but it’d be nice to find a more cost-effective solution.

I’m not sure how old your son is but my boys ages 2 and 4 enjoy their ‘truck juice’ (complete with sound effects by Mum) ....which is really apple or pear flavoured children’s formula fish oil (made by Ascenta NutraSea +D formula). Even now I am always surprised that they quite look forward to it!  This brand is one brand (there are others I am sure) that is apparently ‘pharmaceutical grade’ i.e. purified fish oil with no contaminants. I tend to experiment with different brands but in the past I have taken a lemon flavoured formula by Ascenta directly which was quite palatable. I actually prefer to take it this way vs. capsules and chase it with a bit of juice.  However, Krill oil is apparently excellent and is more environmentally sustainable. If your son is older he could chase his Omega 3 oil with with juice or add it to yogurt? Those capsules are always quite large to get the required dose aren’t they! Hope this helps….

I buy the Mega Red at Costco and the price is much lower than elsewhere. I don’t like the BIG fish oil capsules so taking this smaller size is easy. No after taste that I’ve ever experienced. I’m taking it for my fibro and arthritis. I also take a vitamin D pill from Costco that is tiny.

Good luck getting on a healthy regimen.

Here is a link to a new great orange tasting liquid that is one of the highest quality fish oils on the market and kids love it.  http://www.marketamerica.com/sku-13074/single-bottle-48-servings.htm

Pour the oil in his food or one sip orange juice or any liquid if nothing else.

My son’s MD rec’d Nordic Naturals Arctic Cod Liver Oil last year - it’s flavored, 1 tsp.daily.  After 6 weeks of not talking much about it, I couldn’t ask my then-4 yr. old ADHDer if it was helping (I thought it was a bit), but guinea pig #2 (his older sister, who has mild ADD) was quite positive that it helped her focus and concentrate better.  NOW we are going gluten and dairy free.  After 3 weeks he is noticeably less hyperactive, so that must be the dairy, which is supposed to clear from your body in a few days (gluten takes months, so we don’t know about further improvement yet).  Wish I’d been part of a study (since they haven’t yet been able to “prove” benefits), because I could definitely have quantified it (x amount of time outs, trying to get his attention, etc.)!

We switched to Mega Red Krill Oil as a supplement for my son who takes Strattera and an anti-depressant.  He has no trouble taking it since it is small, tastes good and doesn’t have any burp back.  My husband and I take it as well and actually triple the dose and feel it has helped us both with joint pain as well.  Definitely buy it at Costco!

Does anyone know about the supplement ADD-Care?  I just ordered some for my son and need to know if anyone has had any good, or bad, luck with it.  He is taking Strattera now and while it helps, he could sure use more impulse control.  Thanks!

I give my 12 YO daughter “attention” made by Metabolic Response Modifiers- check it out on http://www.mrm-usa.com- the pills are small and contain other supplements ADHD’ers need! I also give her two Add-Care SR capsules (these are big). Sarah thinks she is concentrating better but on the weekends i have not seen that. I am going to keep her on the Additude but i am going to try Synaptol instead of the Add-Care. Anyone have any experience with Synaptol?
