Medication

My daughter(8y/o) has been on every medication for her ADHD it seems. Her neurologist has her on Risperidal and it does not seem to help at all. She is also ASD so I am totally lost with what to do. We have tried both the stimulants and non stimulants at very dosages. Open to any ideas…

Hi.  Our 11 year old son (5th grade) has also been on a variety of both stimulant and non-stimulant meds…also with no success.  He also has ASD (and PDD/NOS)  and has an IEP in place.  It’s so hard to watch him struggle every day and try to do his best. We’ve also tried OTC (Synaptol) and both homeopathic and naturopathic remedies….also with no success.  They tell us that there are just some kiddos out there that nothing seems to help them out.  But…we’re still looking!  I’m also open to any ideas out there!
Thanks for sharing.  Take care.

We were just switched from Risperidone today to another similiar RX which is Abilify. I wanted to get off of Riseridone due to the large weight increase lately. She always has had major hunger but lately it is just becoming too much for her to handle being as she is 8 and peer acceptance is so imortant at that age. So we were given Abilify but I am concerned we only swapped one for another of the same side effects. If anyone knows anything about the Abilify and knows how it effected your child I would love to know too. I have had my child on Risperidone and a rather high dose since she was 3. She was adopted and when we first got her she was such a mess we waited a year until we couldn’t wait any longer, it was tough but a drastic situation reuired a drastic measure. We have now been on it 5 years and at 8 yrs old she is at 97 percentile at her weight which is about 95lbs approx. So I love the drug if it didn’t cause severe hunger, I am not sure what happens at a lower dose for others.
