ADHD in Boys

My son is 9 with adhd

Does anyone feel really lonely and have a hard time haveing friends people don’t want to be around us

I am so sorry.  It is difficult for sure having boys who are unpredictable and temperamental.  It is hard on a mother’s nerves and heart to always feel like they have to be on alert for upcoming problems.  My ten year old son has episodes like that, though he manages to have friends as well.  I am always on edge, feeling like he’s going to explode over nothing at any point and end up in the principal’s office or with no friends.  You are your son’s advocate and protector and helper as he learns to navigate this life.  Finding a local support group for yourself would be great be/c you could spend time with other families who experience this and at least you would be near a sympathetic and understanding crowd.  Don’t lose heart mom!  Make sure you keep your own relationships with your friends strong - even if it is via facebook or texting sometimes.  And maybe you can find a local child therapist or life coach who can do some role playing with your son to help him learn to make better choices in social situations.

My grandson has ADHD, he’s 9 and sometimes he explodes into rages.  He has also been suicidal, so he is Guanfacine and methyl phenidrate (Concerta) in the am and Guanfacine (to lower the metabolism) and Prozac at night.  All I know is that it works.
We do his homework as soon as he comes home but he gets very emotional then, since the Concerta has worn off.  We keep encouraging him to make lotsa friends cause he alienates each one eventually.  I’m turning into a social goddess, which is NOT my natural state, trying to provide a hospitable home his friends will want to come to.

I use to feel the same way. Go to a website called http://www.meetup.com and there’s groups in your area of parents setting up meeting places for the kids.
