New mom to ADHD

My 10 yr old was recently diagnosed with ADHD and I don’t really know what to do. He also has some anger issues and life is getting harder. I also have 2 older children. I can use any advise in terms of treatment/ what kind of drs. therapists/ and how to deal with teachers. I am also looking into a natural vitamins or herbs as treatment for behaviors and would like to know what everyone is using and what seems to be helping. Thank-you~

I feel for you! It’s is good you are reaching out.  When my son was diagnosed 2 years ago we found a good psychiatrist who worked with children to look into medication.  Meds are such a personal choice and was a step we were vey hesitant to take.  After much hand wringing and guilty feelings on my part we decided on the lowest dose of Vyvanse.  It has made a huge difference.  Of course it does’t fix things it just helps, you still have to use unbelievable parenting skills to deal with the daily ups and downs( I have a daughter who does not have ADHD and she is a 1000% easier to parent). Hang in there I feel like I start over every day, trying to be patient, holding my breath praying things go okay.  There are successes, he just got back from a great week at an ADHD focused camp.  He had a blast and they helped him with social skills.  You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi momof3!

Try posting this in the Parent of ADHD Children group (http://connect.additudemag.com/groups/group/Parents_of_ADHD_Children). That group is large and very active. You will get a lot of advice, support, and personal experience stories if you share this discussion there as well.
