Nine yr old on intuniv

,my 9 year old girl was just put on Intuniv this month. We ended up going on with the older version when it was used to be called tenex.  The intuniv was going to cost us almost 300 per month and the generic is $7 per month. My question is we are seeing a change her hyperness and her impulsiveness however I am seeing a small amount of sadness or extra emotional sensitivity.  My mother would have called it the ole poor pitiful me syndrome.  of course it may just be the normal emotions of a 9-year-old girl.  has anyone had similar issues or have advice thank you

We are on the brand name version. My son has been on it for two years now. If anything, we have seen an improvement in his mood and a reduction in emotionality. He does however experience a significant increase in appetite when he takes it without Ritalin.

That’s all I have to report.
Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

My 8 year old was taking 1/2 tab three times a day (Tenex) and it was making him so sleepy!  I stopped it after a month.  I noticed he still got angry/agressive and that is what we were hoping would get resolved.  He was taking it with Concerta.  It did help his appetite and sleep, but it was also making him wet the bed.

Intuniv can cause some emotional sensitivity. My son took it a couple years ago and all the side effects he first experienced gradually went away about 4 weeks into it.

Here’s an FAQ on Intuniv that may help—Intuniv is the extended-release formula of the medication your daughter is taking: http://www.additudemag.com/adhd/article/8177-2.html.

Also, watch to see if she’s only more emotional between doses. My son never could take any type of short acting medication because it caused too much of an emotional roller coaster for him.

Thanks everyone.  I was lovinglying told today that “you don’t even love me…u just had kids to make them do all the work”.  Crushed me…but you would seriously laugh if you saw the state of her huge closet and toy room.  I’d be financially rich without kids and she surely doesn’t ever finish a chore.
