Parents of ADHD Children

Now what? What kind of doctor? Any recs?

My pediatrician quickly diagnosed my 8 year old son with ADHD and I agree but would like further testing as I think he has other things going on.  My pediatrician couldn’t offer help beyond meds.  Does anyone have a psychologist or someone else they could recommend in No Cal/Silicon Valley who diagnoses kids?  I am at a loss at what my next step is.

Thanks for your help!

Find a pediatric psychiatrist. If you can’t find one find a psychiatrist that specializes in ADHD.

Myself, I prefer a pediatric neurologist who specializes on ADHD. You could see a psychologist for the test and then see the neurologist for the meds. Our family feels a neurologist is more equipped to deal with the brain medication than a psychiatrist.

You live in Silicon Valley? You are so lucky. There are plenty of docs out there who can help treat your child. There is even an Amen Clinic in the San Francisco area. ADHD is there specialty. Just go online and Google, Amen Clinic San Francisco.

Good Luck!

If your pediatrician can’t recommend one to you, check with your insurance to see what child psychologist or psychiatrist is covered. It’s not perfect but it gives you a place to start. My pediatrician suspected my son had anxiety and sent us to a psychologist who then tested him and determined he had ADD along w anxiety. We have since switched to a psychiatrist but either can help you with testing.
