Omega 3 supplements
Does anybody have an Omega 3 supplement they like? I’m looking for a new one for my 8 year old, but am not sure which ratio of DHA to EPA I should choose. Seems like some experts say you want at least 3:1 or more EPA, yet other sources say more DHA. Any thoughts? Anyone using one at home they think is helping?

I give my son Nordic Naturals for 5 yrs and older. EPA helps him with his emotional needs and DHA helps with hyperactivity as far as my experience in reading. I would go with a standard and supplement with one or the other as needed for eithe emotional or hyperactive. All our kids are different and have different needs. Godd Luck.
I use Barlean’s Kids Omega Swirl (lemonade flavor) for both my boys, age 7 and 10. They love the taste! http://www.barleans.com/omega-kids.asp
I use Iron Kids gummies Omega-3’s (it’s the only kind my kids will eat). They contain 4:1 dha (dha 80 mg, epa 20 mg). I like this product because they will eat them and I notice a difference in my son when we run out, but I wish they weren’t such a low dose. The dosage for my kids (7 and 9) is 4 gummies, 1 to 3 times daily. That’s a lot (4-12 gummies!). I’m currently looking for something else because of that. Still, it’s a good product, and I never have to fight with my kids to eat them (probably because the dose is so low that they don’t taste fishy).
I use Nordic Naturals for my 7 year old.
Thanks everybody. I think I’m going to try an Omega supplement with a 4:1 EPA to DHA ratio since that is what ADDitude recommends in some of the literature on this site that I’ve seen. It’s what a few books I’ve read have suggested too. I’ve used Nordic Naturals in the past. For those of you that use Nordic Naturals, which specific supplement are you using? ( they seem to have a million) I’m looking at the EPA or EPA xtra for my son.
I use Nordic Naturals DHA. It has 90mg EPA and 450 DHA.
Have you ever tried Flaxmilk? I discovered that a couple of months ago, my local Walmart carries it in the refrigerated section. It tastes awesome, is great with cereals or just plain by the glass (comes in plain or vanilla) and 8oz contain 1100 mg of Omegas!
It’s also non GMO and calcium enriched.

I hear more and more people talking about Krill Oil. It’s rich in Omegas, it’s easy to absorb, it’s sustainable, very small creatures so not to have toxins, etc. Good luck.
