Parents of ADHD Children

One-time nanny for our special needs daughter and her sister

I live in California, and my sister just announced she’s getting married in Massachusetts in November.  My husband and I would love to go, and desperately need some time away from our beloved 9 and 11yo girls.  The problem…..we don’t have anyone to watch our girls during the week.  Friends have offered to watch them over the weekend, when they don’t have school and extracurriculars, but we have no one to watch them mid-week.  I anticipate a rocky road for the caregiver with some tears, and separation anxiety on the part of both of my girls. My 11yo has ADHD, multiple learning disabilities, and some autistic characteristics.  I am hoping to find a nanny who’s trained to work with special needs kids that could watch them for 4 days.  How do you find someone like that?  My husband is not comfortable leaving them with someone we don’t personally know.  Advice?

I know a lot of people have success with I’m sure there are nanny services in your area too—you can specify that the individual must be experienced with special needs. Ask friends and neighbors for referrals also.
