ADHD at School

Regular or Advanced Classes?
Keywords:

I think I might have made a huge mistake.  My daughter is going into 6th grade (start middle school here).  She struggled with grades some last year (average B, but in a suburban school where everyone gets good grades and she got Cs in writing).  We did a writing tutor over the summer but with not-great grades plus she did poorly on the standardized test they have her in regular (no-advanced) classes.  Yet she tested at above average (typical for a college student) IQ so it’s not a “hard drive” issue… it’s motivation and attention.

I"m concerned because all her friends are in advanced classes.  And friendships with girls like that have helped her stay on track in school.  I"m concerned regular classes could surround her with “slacker” kids and cause a downward spiral.

I didn’t push for the advanced classes because I saw how she struggled last year but now I"m thinking I made a big mistake!

What would you do?
