Retaining math facts in 2nd grade

My daughter is not on any medication for her ADD due to side effects of the stimulants she has tried.  She is having difficulty retaining math facts.  Does anyone have any suggestions on strategies to help her retain that information?

For my son we used a program called timez attack from bigbrainz.com.  He just played the little game and it almost brainwashed the facts into him.  He never studied a single times table and yet was the first in his class to make it through to the 12’s in 2nd grade.  Thet also have add and subtract games as well.  Good luck to you.

We have used multiplication game apps as well with success. There are many, many different ones, but you have to find one that your child can engage with. When my son had to learn multiplication facts, I required 5 minutes on the game with homework each day there was homework (most school days).

Schoolhouse Rocks worked for my son. When I was a kid we had records that made times tables into songs making it easier to memorize. I’d look into something like that.

I have been looking for similar programs for my child.  He is almost 11 and math seems to be the bane of his existence.  He can not seem to retain the math because it is of no interest to him.  I just want to say thank you to those who posted the app suggestions and for posting this thread!

I will say that there is a great program called “Khan academy” it is not only math but various programs and he really seems to be interested and enjoys it.  All but the math portion of course.  lol

His 3rd grade teacher used “hot dots” with him which he really liked and those are a great tool that you can purchase at any learning store.  they are flash cards (from math to reading) and they come with a special pen and it lights up green when the answer is correct and red when incorrect.  For a 2nd grader I would get the Puppy toddler pen as it has a better tip which is more accurate.

Good luck and thanks again for the thread and all the suggestions listed above.  I’m going to try them all!! lol
