Strattera and Intuniv together

My 8 year old son has ADHD and behavior and learning problems.  He’s having a difficult year and we have tried all stimulant meds and haven’t found one that works or agrees with him.  The Dr now put him on both Strattera AND Intuniv.  Has anyone had any experience with taking these 2 meds together??  Any feedback is greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

Whoops should have mentioned that he is 10 years old and he too is having a difficult year (we just switched his teacher).  My older daughter is on Vyvanse and I have not heard of kids on 2 meds but I will do anything at this point.  I have found the strattera has a side effect of anxiety.  My son needs the stimulant in order to complete/sort through his school work.  I have not heard of Intuniv - what mg is he on?  What mg does he take of Strattera?  Good luck!  ADD/ADHD & learning disabilities are effecting more and more families - why aren’t they studying the brain and how to possibily solve this directly through the brain?

My 6 year old was put on Adderall and Intuiniv - Adderall being the stimulant and Intuiniv the non stimulant (2 mg).  It worked for a while but he had trouble sleeping and appetite. After about 8 months, he was just rude and mean and cranky.  I thought ODD was developing….he was so tired he was falling asleep at school (out cold kind of sleep) and he was going to bed at 7 pm and up at 7 am.  Finally I went to the Dr again and we took him off Adderall to see if it affected his sleep.  He was like a different child. He was less anxious and emotional. He was clam, polite, and slept soundly again.  We are now on only Intuiniv (3mg) and are doing fine.  He sleeps deeply at night and while he is still defiant and we have our challenges - his appetite and sleep is normal. Thank heavens.

My son is 7 1/2, we tried Strattera, we didn’t have a good experience, it caused depression, problems peeing, etc. I’ve also tried Intuniv, it made him sleep all the time, the both together seems like it will make him sleepy and depressed. Strattera has a black box warning too. My husband also tried Strattera and he had the same feelings as my son but my son had problems communicating what the medicine was doing so his behavior got worse. We are only on Adderall and it is working great 5 mg twice a day (1 in the morning, 1 in the afternoon) no crashes at night.

My 12 year old has been taking Strattera since he was 9 and it works well for him.  Some side effects of Strattera are drowsiness and low blood pressure.  Since I know from reading about it that Intuniv has the same effects—even more so—I would be VERY concerned.
