It didn’t ring a bell for me either, but I looked it up. Tegretol is an anticonvulsant, generally used to treat seizures, but like several other anticonvulsants, it’s also used to treat manic or mixed episodes in bipolar disorder. A drug interaction checker did not show any interactions between Tegretol and Adderall. Possible side effects for Tegretol include drowsiness, dizziness, unsteadiness, nausea, vomiting, headache, anxiety, memory problems, diarrhea, constipation, heartburn, dry mouth, and back pain. More serious side effects could include confusion, loss of contact with reality, chest pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or vision problems (these should be reported to your doctor immediately). You should avoid grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking Tegretol.
Hope that helps!

Hello! I have taken both together, quit the Tegretol just 3 months ago due to my reaction to it. I have always been extremely reactive to medication due to having Meningitis as a child, so had the rare, very serious side effect from Tegretol. Don’t worry, this only happens to about 1 in 20,000 people. It caused my lymph nodes both in my neck AND the back of my head to swell enormously, also my face and tongue….I looked as though I had put on 50 lbs from the neck up….hard to breath. BUT, this is just me and my phych, in all of his 30 yrs in practice, had never seen it happen, only knew that it was the most rare and serious of reactions. Tegretol is known as one of the best drugs for Bipolar 1 and 2 and is well known for it’s great effect on mania and mood disorders….and yes, it is also for epilepsy/seizures. It is also one of two mood stabilizers that does not cause weight gain. The other is Lamictal, which I am on now, along with Depakote, another mood stabilizer and Adderall. The mood stabilizer and ADHD meds are very often put together and I must say, works very well!
thank you very much guys! i was kind of freaked out for a min cuz i had never heard of it before and i went to reading about it and all i mainly got was the seizure stuff. (which i dont have) i really hope that this works well for me i have been off meds for a while (VERY bad idea) and i have come to terms with the things that are different about me and am ready to get the help i need!
