ADHD in Washington, DC

Therapist or other Adult ADHD resource referrals!

I’m in DC and looking for therapist referral for adult ADD for myself.  40 yo pretty sure I have it and want to do talk therapy and meds if needed.  Please reply w/therapist referrals or other resources in or near D.C.

Hello there,

I too have been looking for similar help, with mixed results. Finding an opening with a specialist who can help us develop the skills to manage the traits of Adult ADHD is actually fairly difficult unless you are extremely flexible.

Within the Beltway there appear to be several specialists in Adult ADHD.

Almost all of the above listed resources are COD only and do not appear on insurance panels. Many will provide you a superbill and information on filing with your insurer for repayment.

I find this commonality particularly annoying since that tends to be something people like us tend not excel at. The hourly rates for the specialty centers can be quite impressive, especially if you have to meet with them weekly and will not be reimbursed.

If you know you need help asap I strongly recommend visiting the mental health walk in clinic at Inova. They do not publicly list it for some reason but if you contact one of the other locations they can put you in touch with them.

I have had mixed results with professional help in the month and change since I decided to seek help. It is a little discouraging running into road blocks and poor knowledge, but the internet shows some signs of hope.

Best of luck,

Hello. This is my first post on this website.  I’ve kind of reached the point where I need to look for help.  I’ve struggled w/ this since I was a kid but it’s getting to the point where my life is really affected.  I’m in NoVA but would travel to DC or MD for a good therapist/dr.  I’ll hope to find recommendations here.

Hello. WOW. i completely understand. You are in luck. I am 45yrs old and was just diagnosed 1 week ago. It took me 2 years between Va. and DC to finally find a wonderful Doctor who is not only a specialist in this field from and academic perspective but also from a personal experiences. My only issue now is fine tuning whatever medication and therapy is right for me….

If you have any questions feel free to ask…

yahyah, I’m just shy of 44 and had my a-ha! moment a couple of weeks ago.  Looking for a practice like the one you describe to get a formal assessment and diagnosis, and hopefully get some help, because my life is a shambles.  Could you share the name of the doctor/practice you found and like?

@yahyah, I took would like to know who your doctor is as I’ve been searching for a good therapist, but have had trouble finding someone who can really narrow in on my issues.
