ADHD Adults

Trying to find help in the New York City area....

I am relatively new to this site, and was wondering if anyone knew of or could recommend, an ADHD specialist in the New York City area who also takes United Healthcare insurance.

I have been on the internet all weekend and feel like I have gotten nowhere.

I wrote a long post in the ADHD at Work forum, but basically I am about to be fired from my job.

I have both a psychiatrist as well as a therapist, and am also on Adderall, but nothing is working.

I think the psychiatrist might eventually be able to get my medication right (or at least I hope that he can), but I am less sure if my current therapist is really going to be able to help me at this point.

I don’t know how long I will have insurance but while I do- I am hoping to find some kind of effective help.

Hi!  There is a ADHD support group meeting tomorrow in NYC.  You can try to attend and maybe get help there.  I live in Westchester and am going to attend with my daughter (who also has ADHD).

Thank you.

I have actually been a member of the yahoo group for some time now, but have never made it to a meeting.

However, I am planning to go tomorrow night.

This is the second time I have been in this situation in the past 2 years and I am completely terrified.  I don’t how I am going to get through all of this and feel like there is no hope for me. Part of me just wants to give up.

So yeah- I am trying to explore every resource I can think of.

Thanks again.

Thank you WebJunkie for being an active part of the Support Group. AND VioletteN for sharing.  I understand the part about wanting to give up.  I have had such a BAD day, today, even on meds!!  I guess the only difference is knowing that this too shall pass and that tomorrow will or most likely will be a good day.  I couldn’t force myself to do ONE thing today but felt as if I should have, I hate that! oh well.  Anyway, I am going to go tomorrow night and hope to meet you both.  My name is Alana and I am from Hartsdale NY.  I’ve been diagnosed for about 4 years now, and hope to just get some support for this, it can be brutal and can suck the life out of you some days! Look forward to meeting you.
