Vyvanse help and confusion!!??

I’ve all about given up on trying to get the right dosoge to work for me. My wife insisted I keep trying (cause when its good its a better quality of life). I’ve been on it about a month but never ever works that long and when it wears off, I’m worse than before. I played around with the dosoges. Take to much, hyper, anxious, cant sleep, Take to little, Zombie, Disconnected, lack of focus ( to the extreme). But when it works right, it’s amazing. My life is to the fullest just like I’ve always wanted. One problem, after trial and error in both directions the amount that works for me is 70mg early morning, 70mg lunch, 30mg afternoon and then a 10mg (afternoon booster my doctor gave me). After all that I still sleep like a baby around 11p.m.I work with clients for 14 hours a day 4 days a week2 days for 10 hours. My focus is important. Almost to embarrassed to even right this cause it makes me feel like a drugie. But thats the amount that works for me. What do I do??

Why do you care what the dosage is if it works for you. No one keeps track of how much insulin a type I diabetic takes. It’s the same thing. You take enough medicine (but no more) so that your body will work at its best. If this drug doesn’t work then you do have to keep trying different drugs until you find the one that makes you less zombie but able to focus. My son was a zombie on vyvanse but now takes the concerta, which works much better. Still able to focus but not zombied out so much. Personality now is back

If you are having issues with zombi-fication - then, it may be too much for you….however, if that dosing - 3-4 times a day, then be happy that it works.  In addition to the meds, it is very important to keep an eye on your diet intake and your sleep.  Lack of sleep and/or forgetting to eat, can make your meds not work as successfully as they normally would.  I have learned that with my son.  Afternoons used to be really difficult since the Vyvanse kills his appetite during the day….we have found that snacking throughout the day tends to improve the afternoon irritability we were seeing.

I agree with Faye tho….if you are finding the side effects to be too much, then it may be time to have your medication regimen re-evaluated…have you been on any other medications for your ADHD/ADD????

I am so glad that i found this posting.  I too think that Vyvanse is incredibly effective.  However, i find that my body quickly adjusts to the dosage and that i have to keep upping it.  I started at 50, then at 70, then to 100 (70 and 30 combined).  The problem is that the medication only lasts roughly 6-8 hours—at best.  I am now taking adderall 30 mg as an evening booster, which seems to be the perfect combination for me.  I monitor my blood pressure and have no problems sleeping (take melatonin in the evening).

The problem is that Vyvanse is incredibly expensive, and I don’t have medication insurance coverage.  I am in the Shire Cares Discount program, but they don’t cover dosages above 70.

I guess I’m just glad to know that I’m not the only one having dosage issues with Vyvanse.  I’m 41 and i’m convinced that adults likely need a very different dosage than teens or 20-somethings.  I guess I should add that I was only diagnosed about a year ago.  However, I used to drink a pot of coffee every day, which I think has made me over the 20-plus years less sensitive to stimulants than others.  Of course, everyone says that everyone’s metabolism is different, but I just wish that I better understood how common my and the original poster’s experience are.
