Vyvanse Reviews

Vyvnase and Intuniv?

Our psychiatrist is adding Intuniv for my 8 yr old son, who is already on Vyvanse (wasn’t helping enough, not eating, having trouble sleeping, etc). Wondering if anyone else has had experience with this combo? Dr is hoping that eventually we can decrease the dosage of Vyvanse and maybe even eliminate it. Has anyone else had success with just Intuniv for severe ADHD? Thanks!

no. i am on Adderall XR which helps me. the only down side is it is an appetite suppressant. you still have to eat right even if you do not want to or you will not get enough vitamins and you will feel bad.

Hi
I have a 6 year old son who has been on vyvanse since he was 4. It, on its own, is not enough for my son so we have had med trials of other meds to find our best combination. Strattera did not work for him. Our Dr introduced intuniv to us about a month ago. My son has been taking it for the month and we have gradually increased the dosage as he is able to tolerate it with no side effects. I hear great things about it but we haven’t seen exactly what we are using it for yet (mainly anger management/impulse control). I do understand that does get very good results but can take 2-4 weeks to kick in (and not sure we are at our optimal dosage yet). I am not giving up! I have not heard that it may be an option to use on its own without the vyvanse. Vyvanse, in our case, targets my son’s focus issues. However, I suppose we will just have to wait and see. I would love it if we could possibly use just one medication but I do believe they target different parts of the frontal lobe in the brain, though I am not 100% sure. I hope this helps!!
PS-we have had no significant side effects from it (ie my son eats appropriately and sleep is ok. He has never been the best sleeper but it isn’t terrible. He just wakes up once in a while and then goes back to sleep)

My son who is 17 is on vyvanse and intuniv and is doing good on this combination.  We have had a lot of positive things happen while he has been on the intuniv.

My son always felt sick with intuniv.; did not help with ADHD symptoms!

My 6 year old daughter was diagnosed in November with ADHD and was started on 1mg of Intuniv only.  We have since bumped her to 2mg dosage.  It helps with her concentration and focus at school, but she still has emotional outbursts at home. The only side effects we have seen is sleepiness (we did change the dosage time from morning until dinner and that has helped) and occasional stomach pain.  Hope you find the combination that works for your child.

My son has been on intuniv since it came out.  We just recently changed from daytrana to vyvanse and added lexapro.  Intuniv is a staple in our lives.

Thanks, everyone! So far, my son has stayed on the Intuniv - 2mg as well as 20 mg of Vyvanse (he was previously on 40mg and was kind of spaced out and not eating). The combo seems to be the best one we’ve found thus far, but there are still random days where his teacher complains that he doesn’t seem like he’s on anything. And then lots of days where he’s great (so I think she just needs to chill - he’s still a kid!!). No side effects for my son on the Intuniv and he eats more now, thank goodness. So far so good!
