Just Diagnosed With ADHD (Adults)

Wow what a relief! Just found out I have ADD

I have an 11 year old that probably has ADD.  I starting reading up on it and found out that I probably had it.  I went to the Dr. and was told I had ADD.  I have been on Adderal for about 4 days and I feel like a weight has been lifted off my back.  I have been struggling with learning and confidence issues my whole life.

Adderal seems to be working great for me (I know its early).

I am taking my son to the same Dr. in 2 weeks (I wish I could get him in earlier).  I don’t really have a question but will take any advice that anyone can give me on dealing with ADD for me and my son.

He is really upset that he is having such a hard time in school.  He reminds me of myself at his age,  I hope he doesn’t have to go through what I did.

I ended up graduating from College and have a good career,  but I had to work *extremely* hard for it.

I think this is a great web site and look forward to learning as much as I can about ADD ADHD.

You are on the right track! First learn as much as you can about ADHD and how it may be affecting you and your child. Additude Magazine’s website ( is overflowing with information on both adult ADHD and parenting children with ADHD.

On the parenting side, a couple of great books on the subject are “The Explosive Child” (great even for kids who are not explosive as it explains inflexibility) by Ross Greene; and “Superparenting ADD” by Dr. Hallowell.

Reading this was like looking in the mirror.
