Hi. I’d like to participate. I’m 46 year old Mom of 2 boys. I was diagnosed in 2011 after my son had been diagnosed 3 years prior. My question is…I’m on computer all the time. I do work from home. I’m struggling with what the best email program is for managing all of my emails, attachments, etc. Right now using Google but still feel rather lost in the sea of files and trouble searching/finding what I need quickly. Thanks!

I’ll be there.  My biggest challenge is maintaining organization.  I have to make a conscious effort, and if ANYTHING changes for just one day, I’m back to square one, completely overwhelmed.  My entire household (6 + dog) have ADHD symptoms, which between us covers the entire spectrum.  I’m the one with a new organizer that I bought because I lost the other 5, have jotted down notes in each, and am trying to pull it together all over again.  It’s easy to become discouraged, frustrated and feeling like a failure.

I want to attend this web chat. I just finished a 12-week “ADD Crusher” class with Beth Main and am interested in continuing with the effort to get organized. I am a homemaker / emptynester and trying to get a routine going for my days. Every day is different (which I like) but it takes a lot of time to plan my days and weeks, one by one. I know I need more structure, but have a lot of trouble sticking with it—things often come up (like holidays or house-guests or requests from others) and throw me off, and then it’s hard to get back on schedule. I have a lot of time, aside from housework, and a ton of interests, but it’s so hard to feel productive!

My Q:  Can you recommend some ways of combating perfectionism?

I will be there! Some how some way! We are a family of 4 all with ADHD and I am pretty sure the dog has it too! lol All kidding aside it is a struggle each and everyday to work and run a full time business from home without a million distractions. I feel like a chicken with my head cut off and seem to wander around aimlessly even forgetting what the heck I went into the next room for. Please help! I can barely see my desk thru the piles of paper and “sticky note” to do lists!!!!!!

Questions:  How to…

- manage feeling overwhelmed, therefore doing nothing

- transition, get myself moving

- be consistent with routines (setting them up is easy, but it would be nice for once to stick with one for more than just a couple weeks)

I would like to attend. I’d like to get some foundational information about what are the best tools, tips or tricks to help my son organize himself.  He’s a 10 yr old and half his school struggles involve missing assignments or misplaced homework.  Need ideas please.  Thanks.

I plan to attend but may be late; I have a dental appointment at 9am. Will there be a replay? Can you give me strategies to keep motivated in decluttering? The only times I ever seem to make headway is when I have another person present. I think I need a “declutter buddy” but how do I find one?

Posted by Marji on Oct 13, 2012 at 10:19am

I’m a SAHM working one hour a day outside the home teaching fitness classes. I have to organize the entire household plus my personal and professional life. My house consists of an ADD husband (with a home office), a severe ADHD homeschooled 12 yr old boy, a so far “normal”, bright and energetic 2 yr old girl.  And me, the ADD glue that binds. Seems in trying to keep everything going all at once things like dinner don’t get done until 9:00 pm no matter how early I try to start. How could I organize our spaces and routines to be more efficient?

I will be there or here but can you tell me what time from GMT as am in New Zealand and your EST CST dont mean a thing to us down here, especially as we have daylight saving time now , but we do know from London GMT!!! No wonder ADD/HD’s are confused how to get somewhere on time, in time thru time.!!!

Please include me.  Need tips in the kitchen and with piles of paper in particular. It seems everything is laden with “emotion”...I have profound sentimentality….“oh, Mom touched that, she
signed that card to me” Yes she died 4 years ago, but I can’t bear to toss it….but this relates to
all kinds of things.
Over-attachment. I seem to see the world in tiny
little slices…not a whole room at a time, (generally), but focus on a small area and get involved in it.
I am psychic and overly sensitive.  So delighted to
find this topic. Just joined the group today!

Posted by Cayce Friend on Oct 15, 2012 at 3:41pm

Will try to attend as I could really use some practical tips…I can only sort my piles into four categories… Miscellaneous, Stuff, Crap and Other.

Thanks.

Life gets pretty overwhelming a lot of the time—or else I gratefully get engaged in one more exciting project which makes me feel better for a while, but meanwhile more clutter, mess and unread mail are piling up. If I could only make the influx stop or slow down while I declutter!
I think making many small decisions is the hardest part for me. How can I figure out where to start? How to deal with the fact that it takes me so long to do everything that new input comes in faster than I can deal with it? How to simplify? How to set priorities and let go? How to learn to do it all quickly?

Posted by Lysbeth on Oct 18, 2012 at 9:05pm

Actually I will correct that last post. I think my biggest challenge is time management (though decision making is part of that). It seems like managing daily life is so time-consuming that I can’t find the time it would take to declutter. What are the best ways to find or make the time to get organized? How do you know when to ask for help? What sources of help are the most cost-effective?

I am overwhelmed by the amount of piles in my house.  Not just paper piles, but piles of returns, clothing to put away and toys.  I find when I have so much to do, I do nothing.  I am not sure how to break it down so it is not so completely overwhelming.  I walk by the same piles day after day and wonder why I don’t just take the two minutes to put it away.
