Hi, please sign me up to join the Women with ADHD chat!
Question for Dr. Quinn;
First, I’d like to thank Dr. Quinn for her wonderful books, they have helped me better understand my daughter with ADD and made me realize that I might also have it.
My question is this: My diagnosis was suspected by me and my psychiatrist, who I was seeing for depression and anxiety, based on self-reported symptoms from childhood to age 52. I was put on 15 mg Adderall quick release, twice per day for a month to see what effect it had. It did seem to help me focus, but what he said “clinched” the diagnosis was that I was able to take an afternoon nap, whereas a NT person would be crawling the walls.
What do you think of this method of diagnosing someone, is it valid? Would you recommend my being seen for a full evaluation by a psychiatrist who specializes in ADDHD?
Thanks!
What are the benefits of medication?
Thanks
I’ll be there!
I’d appreciate some insights/advice about ADHD and menopause. It feels like it’s exacerbating my ADHD.
As SusanZ indicated above, I am wondering if my ADD is worse as I am perimenopausal.
I will be there.
See u there.
I plan to attend!
I’ll be there! Ditto to SusanZ and Stella…how does the female hormone fluctuation affect ADHD, and any helpful advice on how to deal with it on a daily basis. Also, wondering if a lot of my symptoms are more symptomatic of menapause than actual ADHD. Thanks.
I am planning to attend. Thanks!
Will be there, I echo the concern about (pre-or full blown) menopause and ADD symptoms! I feel like I will have to write my name down soon to remember it!

Yes - and I would also like to hear about the connection with menopause. My last period was 2 years ago. I was diagnosed with ADD a year ago. My symptoms, particularly working memory, seem to be worsening. I feel like I’m going nuts! Thanks.

Will there be any recorded video or audio, even transcripts of any of these? I just registered to ADDitudemag online and this webcast is one I particularly found may be helpful! BUT…..1:00pm EST in the USA (where I recently moved from) is 4:00AM in Australia!!! :( I wish there were something similar over here…any advice? Thanks. Good work you all are doing for people btw!
1) Post-menopausal exacerbation of my ADHD symptoms. I was diagnosed a year ago at 49 and the medication was a miracle but I am still struggling with everyday organization and memory, etc…
2) I am seeing a therapist who is terrific for working out my emotional issues but I can’t afford to hire an ADD coach for help in the everyday management of myself and my family’s life (all my responsibility).
There is a lot of help online but screensucking is a major issue for me! If I get on the computer for help everyday-I wouldn’t get anything else done. Help!
