please tell me someone has awncers to my problem

okay im a 16 teen year old girl and i started taking concerta 36 mg one pill in the morning when i was 8 years old. when i was 14 i stated taking 56mg on pill daily. now just yesterday my percription was changed to 36mg two pills in the morning. i only weigh 104 pounds. I never get to sleep till like 4:30 in the morning. I can never consontrate because im so tired. Im always feeling sick when im on it. can some please help me. im tired of feeling this way i have felt this way since i was 8. my grandfather started me on this medication and doesent want me off of it because i t aparently helps me but idk how it helps me. i can never stay fpcused no matter how high the dose is. and i always have to keep moving so i dont feel sick. can someone please explain why im feeling like this because i honestly dont want to feel like this anymore. when im on my medication i feel trapped. i dont feel like im myself when im on my medication. butwhen im off of it i accually talk and laugh and smile. please help me.


if you say it depression its not your wrong just please help me.

My daughter had similar sleep issues and upset stomach when she was on Adderall and Paxil. I would highly recommend you meet with your prescribing Dr. to discuss trying a different medication. Just because it worked for you when you were 8 or 14, doesn’t mean it’s right for you now. Puberty and your hormone cycles can change how the medication affects you. Plus, many adults even say that after a while on the same medication, it loses it’s effectiveness and they have to switch to somethng else.

If your current Dr. prescribing the medicine isn’t willing to try something else, then maybe it’s time to find a new primary physician or psychiatrist who will.

There are many options regarding medication. My 19 yr. old niece has been on the Daytrana patch for a couple of years now with good results. She just puts it on in the morning ad takes it off at night. My sister said she seems more consistently focused and within an hour of removing it, she gets hungry so it isn’t messing with her appetite as much as other meds did in the past.

Hang in there as it will get better, but speak up for yourself and request a trial of a different medication.

We have tryed alot of diffrent medication. but non of it works out. i have tryed to speak up but my grandfather just shuns me out now he put me on a diffrent more higher doseage of concerta without asking me. now im even worse. im starting to think i dont even need this medication i hate this feeling and i dont eat when im on it because when ever i do eat anything on these pills i just throw it up anyways. i had to stop taking my pills for about 6 months just to get my period. like thats rediculous. alot of people look at me and go are you anerexic? because im so small. every time i go back to my doctors i lose more and more weight and the worst part of it is that my doctor doesent have an email so i cant get a hold of him my self.

Can you not phone the Dr?  Why is your Grandfather giving you more pills?  This sound wrong.  Is there a trusted adult at school/college you can talk to about this?  It seems to me you need to call your doctor and arrange an appointment directly with him.  Could you not phone him from a friends house or something like that?

I am not too familiar with rules elsewhere but in the UK 16yr olds don’t have to have adult supervision to go to the Drs and to be honest, you should be able to choose an adult to go with you yourself now.  Do you have any other adults around that could help you?

add/adhd medications used to make me feel the same way, like sitting in a chair drooling and feeling like a zombie.  Luckily Im an adult and stopped taking the meds, I really don’t like those meds any of them.  Wuftytufty has great advice, Im not sure how old you need to be in the US to go to the doctors without a parent.  I know my kids used to drive themselves to the dentist and to the doctors for birth control by themselves without me. You can call any mental health services or hotlines for advice on what to do and how the meds make you feel.  Most mental health clinics can give advice without you giving your name.  Please call someone soon so you can get off those medications.

I got all my silly personality back once I was off medications for good.  Best of Luck.  I wish I could help you, I really feel your pain and I understand.  Your not alone.  Make that phone call, google Mental Health clinics in your home town. Usually 24 hours a day to answer questions.

Your medication is not right if it is making you feel bad. If it already makes you feel lethargic, and increased dose will very likely make it worse. If your grandfather is prescribing it and won’t listen to how you are feeling about it, he shouldn’t be the one prescribing your medication. Is there another adult in your family that can take you to a doctor that is not a family member? Keep working on getting some resolution and don’t accept that the meds make you feel terrible—they shouldn’t.

I agree with others about talking to a doctor yourself, without your grandfather involved. I’m so glad you posted about this.

I used to take Concerta, but after a while it stopped working for me, and started to make me feel poisoned, lethargic, and scattered.

I took nothing for a while, until I felt like I needed a boost again to deal with stressful situations.

Now I take Adderall. I have sleep issues, and usually wake up in the middle of the night and can’t sleep for hours. It is frustrating.

But because I’m an adult and I’m in charge of what medication I take, when I need a change I just go to my psychiatrist and explain what the problem is. A good doctor will be willing to work with you. One who won’t…is not a good doctor.

Try to remember to eat. Starting your day with protein, and eating little amounts of protein throughout the day can help maintain an even level of energy.

Have you ever watched the ADD Crusher videos? You can find clips on YouTube. The guy who created the videos offers good advice about diet and exercise, and other aspects of managing ADHD which can help with some of the symptoms. Plus, they’re fun to watch.

Also, there should be free counseling services in your area, if you want a source of support outside your family. My son is fourteen and found a counselor through a social services agency. He didn’t need my permission - in fact, he never even had to tell me he was going - and it’s completely private. I don’t even know who the counselor is, or where they meet. And I’m fine with that - I want him to get the support he needs.

I’m taking 54mg Concerta and just recently got on this dose. My doctor said that the side effects start getting bad at the next higher doses.

To counteract the problem of not being able to get to sleep, my doctor suggested taking concerta before 8am. I don’t take it if I seriously oversleep past 8am. I still had problems w memory and he suggested taking Cognizin Citicoline (CDP-choline) 250 mg w the concerta. After a while I could taking a second one later in the day. It did help; the side effect of dry skin and mucous membranes (nasal passages) decreased noticeably also.

I also take 800mg SAMe when I usually wake up in the middle of the night. I fall back to sleep.

I have slight problems w appetite but recently I like to eat meals w protein (Greek yogurt, full fat is great) & fat & carbs every 2-3 hrs w a snack like an apple, cheese & nuts as a lower cal snack bet meals or nut butter & celery, carrot sticks.

I take a time released B6 pill, a chelated Magnesium pill to stop the restless leg symptoms at night (works) and a “stress” B vit supplement. The restless leg kept me up at night before.

I like sitting in the sun for at least 15 min/day (or Vit D3 drops) and getting some cardio exercise (dancing, swimming; make sure you do something YOU LIKE!)), some wt training (you can use 500ml water bottles) and some relaxation training like yoga or deep breathing. Most people w ADHD find exercise makes them feel better.

OH, did I mention that I have a gluten sensitivity? Many people who don’t feel well actually have this problem or other food sensitivities. Dr OZ says that if you avoid all gluten: wheat, rye, barley for 1 month & then eat gluten and get sick- you will know for sure. I ate gluten for 3 days and thought nope AND THEN IT HIT: the worst asthma attack (I almost considered going to the emergency room!), the worst sinus headache, the worst joint, stomach and muscle pain and swellings I have ever singly experience came all together AT THE SAME TIME. It is worth checking this out.

I would recommend adding crushed flax seed &/or flax oil to increase the Omega 3 to 6 ratio in your food which decreases dry skin and decreases swellings. Coconut oil, avocados also have lots of omega 3s. Walnuts, pistachios, almonds are also good.
