Vyvanse Reviews

should so be on something else?

My son is 9 and is currently taking vyvanse 30mg. He has been on this medication for about 2 months. before that we took focalin xr 35mg for 2 years. My concern is that for the first month the vyvanse seem to be doing great,it was lasting longer,he was listing, started doing alittle better in school, now with in the last week he has been HELL. His grades have slipped,he will not listen,Has several melt downs. We I call the Dr all she can say is that we might have to decrease his medication or stop it.Why would you want to stop it or decrease it. So confused with that one. My son needs to take meds to help him focus. should I ask the Doctor about intuiv. My son already takes clondine 2mg and I really do not see much difference in his moods, except he sleeps better. If anyone help me with some advise it would be helpful

My daughter had been on vyvance and after being on it a little while she turned into a raging, angry girl- one I had never seen before. I couldnt bare to see her that way as i know what her inner light looks like.
My daughter changed to Adderall and Holy smokes shes on fire! Now I say this knocking on wood but every one who comes in contact with her notices a huge difference, she is soooooooo much happier and the meds never stole her personality like some can. Academically she is turning everyones heads because they didnt know she had it in her. She still has her moments and that will never change but wow, so far- so good.  I hope you find the right fit, its not easy when your trying to find just the right mix.

I am an adult ADDer and have also been on several meds to try to find the right one - vyvance made me very aggressive and angry and easily set off.  It also felt like it was stealing my brain, couldn’t think too hard without getting a headache and simple words were lost in the muck- I have since switched a couple of times and it can be very disheartening trying to find a needle in the haystack but think I am getting closer to finding the right fit-  I wish you all the best, and keep trying- it is sooooo worth it.

I don’t wanna alarm you, but the first thing I think you need to be sure you verify your son’s diagnosis. Does he have ADHD or another disorder such as early onset bipolar.

Before my son’s doctor prescribed Ritalin, she asked us a lot of questions to be sure he had ADHD and not early onset bipolar as his diagnosis. Stimulant medication is contraindicated bipolar disorder. In fact, it would make symptoms worse.

I also don’t know about giving him Intuiv. It just came out. I don’t know how much research has been done on it. If bipolar disorder is your child’s diagnosis, I would ask the doctor to start by trying Lithium. That’s been used for decades. They know pretty much how it works and what to expect. They know about proper dosage. You can try the newer stuff it it doesn’t work. But, I would definitely try that first.

Second, if your son does have ADHD, I think you should try a short acting stimulant medication. Its more of a hassle than extended release meds like Vyvanse, but short acting meds let you and you doctor how much you give and when. For instance, I just read on a drug info website that you can’t give Vyvanse in the afternoon. That’s no problem with short acting stimulants. We just added half and afternoon dose last week and its making homework and after school activities much easier to get through.

Like I said I hope this info does not cause you alarm, but that is what I would do.

Hi! My son has been on Vyvanse. Whenever the doctor has upped his meds she asked me to give it a month to see what the side affects are because it can take that long to show. So your situation can just be showing itself.

I am actually noticing that recently my son has been an emotional roller coaster and he’s been on his mg for quite sometime. I am considering talking to the doctor because Vyvanse may no longer be working with him as he is getting older.

Good luck!

I have an 8 yr old that refuses to take any type of meds. She like me has ADHD. We both take Vyvanse she takes 40 mg and I take 70 mg. Yes there are times that I do notice that she seems out of sorts like loud outburts, tantrums. But I give it to her no later than 6:45 on the days when she goes to school and thenas soon as she wakes up on the wekends, Before she was on Vyvanse she was on Aderallxr first and that did not not work.  Daytrana that was a patch that did not work after awhile, then she got to the point that it was not working. She was then put on Ficalin and this did not seem to work either. when it got out of her system it was like world war three in my house. She has been on Vyvanse for about a month and I have come up with some created ways to get her to take it. Since being on Vyvanse she made the honor at school and one of the best things that I have done I am constantly emailing her teacher letting her know what is going on with the meds. and the teacher has been very helpful.
Hope some of this works.

good luck
